LOTSCHBERG Crest Tunnel – INNOVATIVE TRACK CONVERSION
The ballasted track of the Lotschberg Crest Tunnel in Switzerland is getting replaced by the LVT slab track system, the latest application of the LVT Standard System with an integrated sealing element.
More than half of the about 25km of tracks in the Lotschberg Crest Tunnel have already been converted in a LVT slab track after removal of the old ballasted tracks. In the double track tunnel one track has to stay all the time in service. Construction during rail operation has given rise to new installation techniques derived from the tunnelling construction. Since 2018 the Lötschberg Crest Tunnel site is supplied with LVT SE supports from Sonneville’s European licensee Viger Rail located lake district area of Switzerland.
For the skiing season the construction work is stopped to allow full capacity for the shuttle services to the ski resorts in the Valais county. We wish all winter sport fans a great ski season and enjoy the smooth ride on the shuttle service running on LVT tracks to your ski resort!
