Ceneri Base Tunnel before handover to SBB

After a compulsory break of about one month, testing of the Ceneri Base Tunnel is resuming. The first high-level test runs with the ICE train have already reached maximum speeds of 275 km/h. This means that there is now nothing to prevent the tunnel from being handed over to SBB and put into operation before the end of 2020.

Vigier Rail is proud to be part of this project of the century. The Ceneri Base Tunnel completes the Gotthard axis of the New Rail Link through the Alps (NRLA) as part of the European railway axis Rotterdam – Genoa. A total of 93,000 LVT standard and 5,000 LVT HA supports for the slab track were supplied for the almost 15 km long tunnel between 2017 and 2019. Vigier Rail also supplied the permanent way material for the advance and approach sections such as B91 sleepers and turnout sleepers.
